Tips for Teaching Students How to Write Haiku
For students and teachers that are unfamiliar with poetry, learning how to read and write haiku is a great place start!
Since haiku poems are only 3 lines long and have a clear structure, this form of poetry can be much less overwhelming than others.
Start by reading quality haiku to your students. You can use these haiku examples from famous haiku poets, or use these more recently written haiku books to introduce your students to haiku.
You might also like this no prep haiku unit. It includes no prep worksheets and activities to help students learn the rules of haiku, read and comprehend haiku poems, illustrate poetry, read about the history of haiku, write their own own haiku, and answer test questions about haiku.
Purchasing this is not at all necessary to participation in the haiku contest - it just might make your life easier if you are teaching a haiku or poetry unit!
Never Stress Over Sub Plans Again!
Make copies, find a fiction book, and you'll be ready for any emergency that comes your way!
